Chapter 5
Destiny Readings
*Professor Pandora’s class*
It was dark when Chandra, Quinn and Vexus entered Professor Pandora’s classroom. Many students (mainly first years) had already taken their seats at a table that had a hand-held mirror on it. There were two people per table so Chandra looked around for someone she might know. She had to squint her eyes to see some of her friends. Vexus pointed a star shaped wand at the ceiling and muttered something under his breath. The room became filled with light making the room shine. Chandra took a seat next to Ammy who was writing in a notebook. The teacher had not shown up yet so Chandra decided to at least try to talk to someone before class started. She looked at Ammy and smiled.

“Did you receive your letter today to Ammy?” Chandra asked.
“Oh, no actually I received my letter yesterday.” Ammy said with a quiet voice.
“So, how did your parents react?” Chandra questioned.
“Will…uh…they took it fine!” Ammy said quickly and then went back to her notebook.
‘Did I say something wrong?’ Chandra thought as she stared down at her feet.
“So, what about your parents?” Ammy asked.
“Will, my dad doesn’t know. He’s mortal so I’m pretty sure that the whole witch or magic thing might freak him out.” Chandra laughed causing Ammy to smile.
“Your mom?” Ammy asked.
  “My mom is darn happy that I got my letter and is glad to see my follow in her footsteps as the greatest witch here at Belli-Rose!” Chandra snarled causing Ammy to laugh.
“Well, well, well, look what we have here girls two new first years. You must be Miss Kingston, I’m Jacqueline and these are my friends Clarissa and Hester.” Jacqueline said looking at Chandra and Ammy. “Why don’t you go hang out with us instead of with this half-blood?”
Ammy and the whole class went silent. Chandra felt like everyone’s eyes were on her and they were just waiting for her answer.  Chandra glared at Jacqueline and then looked at Ammy.
“Sorry but I never hang out with people who make fun of my friends.” Chandra said. “Now, if you’re done I would appreciate it if you would leave us alone and take your seat!”
Out of the corner of her eye Chandra saw Vexus smile at her and Ammy mouthed the words thank you. Jacqueline glared at her with an angry fire in her green eyes.
“You just made yourself an enemy of the Scorpio and Capricorn House Kingston!” Jacqueline snarled.
“Yeah, you good for nothing half-blood!” Hester growled. Chandra felt hurt by this word but she decided to let it slide.
“The light of the world has shown us its secrets, are you ready to see the secrets of our world?” a voice rang out through the room. Chandra jumped a little surprised by the voice.
“Cue Professor Pandora!” Vexus said loud enough for everyone in the class to hear.
Without Warning a blue light filled the room causing Chandra to cover her eyes and then gaze upon a woman not that older than her mother, pink but almost purple was the color of her hair and she wore a purple almost bikini but more like a belly-dancer-like outfit.
“Miss Clarissa, Jacqueline and Miss Hester, if you are done talking to these first years then please take your seats!” Pandora told them and then smiled at Chandra.
“Yes Professor!” all three girls said and took their seats after bumping into Chandra which she decided to ignore.
“Alright, now that everyone is in their seats shall we begin? Take out your wands!” Pandora commanded.
The first years looked at each other confused. Chandra thought there was a mistake because the other students had their wands out and they didn’t. Finally someone raised their hand.
“Yes, boy?” Professor Pandora asked. “What wisdom do you seek from me?”
“Excuse me Miss, but you haven’t given us our wands yet.”  A boy spoke in a clear Irish accent.
“Yes, I understand that your parents sent your supplies to Belli-Rose. Very well!” Pandora said and clapped her hands.
Suddenly, a hand-string bag of pale pink with red strings appeared in front of Chandra. Chandra thought it looked like an old coin bag. Ammy smiled for she also had hers but Chandra could not see what color it was only that it had a wolf paw-print on it.
“These bags include all your school supplies you will need for the entire first year of Belli-Rose. It contains clothes, potions, and the book of spells, a cauldron and your wand!” Pandora said.
Chandra smiled and pulled out her wand. It was black stick with a gold star attached to it. Ammy’s wand looked the same.
“Okay, now take out your spell book and turn to page 40.” Pandora said, the students did as they were told. “Okay, for this spell to work  you need to focus your wand on the mirror and say the spell!”
Chandra looked at the spell written in the book in gold cursive writing. The spell wasn’t that hard so Chandra said it under her breath when suddenly a window broke and she quickly closed her lips.
“Mr. Moon Ace, you are the only one in my class so far who can not only say the wrong spell but also break my favorite window!” Pandora growled at Alexander who quickly hid his wand behind him but it had fallen to the floor.
“Sorry Professor!” Alexander said quickly and the other first years smiled and laughed.
“Alright, now everyone else please begin.”  Pandora commanded.
“Shinning sun, shimmering glass show us part of our hidden past!” the students chanted the spell from the book.
The stars on everyone’s wands lit up all except Chandra’s. She tried the spell again but nothing happened. Other students laughed at her but she saw some of her friends look at her worried. Ammy was the only one who tried to smile at her.
“Miss Kingston, please see me after class.” Pandora whispered.
“Yes Professor.” Chandra replied.
“Now class, as you can see there are other spells to show you the past, the present and the future. I will be teaching you not only how to use them but also to show you that messing with time can cause serious consequences!”  Pandora said and as she continued to explain about the spells.
As the professor talked, Chandra looked down at her wand. She wanted to snap it in half. She decided to write to her mother that night to explain the situation. Maybe then her mother would allow her to return home to England.  
“Class Dismissed!” Pandora said.
Chandra stood up and watched the other students leave the room. Pandora sat at her desk and flipped through some papers as Chandra walked up to her.
“Miss Kingston, I noticed that today you were the only one who could not produce the spell. Why do you think that is?” Pandora asked looking up at her.
“I’m not sure Professor!” Chandra shrugged.
“Let me tell you something Kingston, I had your mother in this class her first year as well. She could produce that spell in less than a minute!” Pandora said. Chandra sighed, she hated this school because everyone expected her to be just like her mother and they knew that it was not possible.
“Miss Kingston, you are only half-witch so I understand why this could be hard for you but please keep trying!” Pandora said.
“Yes, I will Professor!” Chandra said.
“If you ever need to know anything let me know!” Pandora said.
“Actually there is one thing I would like to know.” Chandra said. “What can you tell me about the Dark Ones?”
Pandora looked up at Chandra with a sudden interest. Her look was mysterious but at the same time it was happy.  Chandra watched as the professor got up from her desk and went over to the big crystal ball and stared at it.
“That is a long story Miss Kingston but that story shall wait until another day.” Professor Pandora said. “After all, stories can be a mystery but also magic can be a mystery as well!”
“How do you mean?” Chandra asked confused.
“All in good time Miss Kingston.” Pandora said taking her eyes off the crystal ball for only a moment. “I will however tell you this. There is all kinds of evil in the world and not all good can stop it!”
Chandra looked confused but sighed and took her magic bag and headed off her next class. She however did not notice that Xavier Royal leaned against the wall near the door to Professor Pandora’s classroom giving her a look of uncertainty.
